Tying Up Loose Ends

We’re scheduled for handover in three days time. Going by the photos, it looks like we’ll need a miracle to make that deadline. Having said that, our contractor is stepping up the pace, her sub-cons are in every day and there’s always something being done.

The house is being painted again. On the right you can see a partial installation of the Ikea Stolmen pole system, which will fill the bulk of our wardrobe space.

Balcony window sill re-plastered and re-painted, looks as good as new now.

The bookshelf has been painted the same grey paint as the walls, which helps to disguise the unevenness in the ceiling at the top right hand corner.

It’s amazing what a big difference a little bit of paint can make. Everything looks new again.

Door receiving its first coat of primer. Glad to see that the lockset has been properly masked up.

This is what I’m most pleased about. The new electrician pulled off the impossible and fixed the previous mess. We got him to shift everything to the left, and we’ll cover the hole in the stainless steel with a blank switch plate.

Not much needed in terms of a description, except that the house is fully painted in grey now. In case anyone is wondering, this is ICI Dulux Snowfield. I’m suddenly realizing it’s the colour of the WordPress CMS, weird coincidence…

The bulk of the light switches and electrical sockets have been installed in these bunch of photos, but the mains hasn’t been connected yet.

It’s nice to see the walls all smooth and “scar” free. Far cry from a couple of weeks ago when the electrical points were being shifted. If this is now Nicole Kidman, that was the Joker in the Dark Knight.

Snowfield is a light blue grey, which fits our almost impossible criteria of being simultaneously industrial, etsy-sweet, cool in terms of colour temp, and understated enough to form the background of the house. It also goes well with pink, teal, mustard yellow and brown, other colours which will enter the environment through the furniture and our possessions.

First Shades Of Grey

Primer is on. In addition, these two walls have been painted grey first, as the sliding doors need to be installed.

The paint is a really light grey. In bright sunlight it almost looks white. Look at the ceiling and unpainted beams to see how it stacks up against white.

We’re hoping to colour match the floor epoxy to the walls to achieve one flat tone.
